Affordability
If you're a rural Colorado school district you are acutely aware of the sparse broadband market in the communities you serve. Due to a lack of options, competition is limited and can be priced as much as 10x higher than identical services for our urban counterparts. The CEBC was founded to improve pricing by aggregating demand and purchasing Internet access as though we were a single large consumer.
As far as 3 hours NW, E & NE of Denver, districts receive $.082 per mbs for a 1GB connection.
Steamboat Springs School District Internet bill reduces by $26,000+ per year. Other districts see similar savings.
Districts now able to purchase broadband based on need rather than budget.
7 bidders responded to the 2017 RFP, most districts involved historically receive fewer than one bid because of their size. We became attractive! We want to grow and drive this cost as close to $0.00 per Mbps as possible. WE NEED YOU! The larger our consortium the more attractive we are to serve, and the more competitive providers become. The result is more broadband options for students seeking digital equity and more broadband competition for the communities where they live.
Local Control
East Central BOCES is the master contract holder. But individual districts get to sign off on the master contract before committing to buy. CEBC can ask for a bid to connect your facilities to the Internet, and after bid review you decide to continue with CEBC or to go your own way. NO RISK TO YOU... just an option to choose from.
